Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Theme
Mosaicos is a journal focused on the area of Cultural Sciences/Cultural Studies and its connection with other areas.

Periodicity
The journal Mosaicos is published twice a year, with the possibility of the edition of special numbers when justified.

1. Submission
Formal review of the article by the journal's editorial team prior to submission for peer review:
a) The article is subject to plagiarism detection;
b) Verification that the article, in formal terms, is in accordance with the recommended style standards;
c) Confirmation that
    i) The article has been submitted in a recent version of Microsoft Word;
    ii) the length of the article complies with a minimum of 4000 words and up to a maximum of 7000  words;
    iii) the structure of the article meets the required elements (abstract, keywords, bibliographical references, etc.);
    iv) the article is original.

If the article meets the formal requirements, it goes on to the next stage; if it does not, it is sent back to the author(s) to introduce any changes deemed necessary.


2. Peer review
Once the article has been accepted by the editorial team, it is submitted to the evaluation of two reviewers who are experts in the subject matter. The reviewers' evaluations are binding and may lead to the following decisions: accept without modifications, accept with modifications or reject. In the case of conflicting evaluations, a third reviewer is used.
In case of acceptance with modifications, the authors commit themselves to implement the suggestions made by the reviewers in 2 weeks.

3. Author Guidelines
- Authors submitting an article to MOSAICOS should do so through the OJS platform of the journal, proceeding to a previous registration.
- Articles should be submitted in doc or docx format.
- The official contact person is the journal's director.
- Texts may be submitted in Portuguese, English, French or Spanish.
- The length of the article should be between a minimum of 4000 words and a maximum of 7000 words, including title and references.
- The abstract of the article must have between 200 and 300 words and three to five keywords must be defined.
- The reviews should have between 1500 and 2500 words, title and references included.

- The submitted article/review must guarantee anonymity.

 

Format

Text organization
The first page should contain, in Portuguese and English, the title of the article (in capital letters and centered, Calibri 14, bold), the abstract and keywords (single space, Calibri 10).
For the numbering of the (eventual) parts of the article, Arabic numbering should be used (Ex.: 1, 1.1, etc.) and the respective titles should be separated by a line from the preceding and following paragraphs. The Introduction and the Conclusion are not numbered.

Graphs and tables must be in editable format.

Norms of style
Mosaicos journal adopts the APA style norms, 7th edition.


Citations and bibliographic references in the body of the text
The quotations must be presented in the original language (if it is one of the four languages accepted for publication) with the placement in footnote of the translation to the language of writing of the text.

The quotations with less than three lines (up to 40 words) integrate the body of the text, with high inverted commas (" "); quotations longer than 40 words must be indented to the left (2 cm) and aligned to the right of the page, Calibri size 12, 1.5 spacing, without inverted commas.
The format for bibliographical references insert in the text is: (Silva, 2015, p. 21); punctuation is placed after the reference.

The use of idem, ibidem, ibid, op. cit. is not allowed; for secondary citations use, e.g.: (as referred in Silva, 2015, p. 23).

Sources of financial support

Authors must declare external sources of financing and scholarships that supported the development of their research referring to the particular author getting the support and the complete reference to the project being supported. Such information will be part of the published article.
